On January 13, 2015 the Elmbrook Rotary Club sponsored the 7th annual Capitol West Academy Spelling Bee Contest. Each year, our Club has provided Barnes and Noble gift cards to the 1st and 2nd place winners in each grade, in addition, we've helped out as being pronouncers during the contests. We're proud to support this event and continue our focus on literacy programs in the Milwaukee area.

For those who aren't familiar with the event, the words used during the contest were from the National Spelling Bee Word List and each grade level has a separate list of words. Prior to the January 13 event, each class/grade held a preliminary spelling bee contest with the top three winners in each grade earning the right to compete during the school event.

On the day of the event, starting with the kindergarten classes competing on letter sounds it begins with the 1st grade class winners continuing on up through the 8th grade class winners who competed in the actual Spelling Bee. The winner of each grade then competed with the next grade level to determine the overall school winner. Numerous Rotarian's, parents, teachers and students watched as a 6th grade student took the overall award and became Capitol West Academy's 2015 Spelling Bee Champion. The overall winner will represent Capitol West Academy in the Regional Spelling Bee contest in February.

Thanks to the Community Service Committee and all those who took part in this worthwhile event.
