As some of us celebrated Wisconsin’s win over North Carolina on Thursday in the Sweet 16, our Friday morning meeting featured a lot of red sweaters as the outside cold temps were in the 20’s and still well below normal. With all the talk of basketball and the NCAA Tournament, we were joined by representatives from the Milwaukee Bucks, Peter Feigin and Alex Lasry who were gave us updates on plans for the new arena and talked about the direction of the team.

Peter and Alex talked about the process of bringing together local and statewide stakeholders and governmental agencies to work through the financing of the new arena while building a higher profile throughout the state. They also stressed the importance of building a team and an organization for the future so that in 5 years, they’re competing for a championship.

Part of their talk touched on the long-term impact of not-having a new downtown arena and an NBA franchise in Milwaukee, and the resulting loss of jobs and income for businesses who benefit from having the Bucks in town; not to mention the national awareness that the team brings to the city. Peter and Alex made it clear that they, along with owner Wesley Edens and Marc Lasry, are committed to turning the franchise around and making the Bucks a winner again.

Next week, our club has its Spikes for Tykes kick-off event. This our 28th Annual Volleyball Spiketacular with members raising funds that benefit a number of local and global organizations.
