ImageOn Wednesday, May 28th, Elmbrook Rotarian Jim Dunn and his wife Sherri hosted a reception at the Wisconsin Club in Milwaukee featuring Resident physician KARINA CANDO who works in Ecuador as part of the Andean Health & Development. She is currently being sponsored by The Elmbrook Rotary Club.

Andean Health & Development (AHD) is fundamentally changing the health and well-being of the poor in rural northwest Ecuador, through a sustainable model that can be replicated throughout Latin America.

What distinguishes the organization from others is fundamental: AHD is the only rural health services provider in Latin America that delivers quality care based on a proven model of self-sufficiency and capacity building. AHD offers the only residency program that trains rural family physicians - where local faculty train local physicians to work in their communities.

AHD serves the poor who often times die from routine illness and infection due to lack of or nonexistent quality healthcare within traveling distance and  is building a second hospital that has caused great excitement throughout the country!
