Last Week’s Meeting Highlights – September 5, 2014
Happy/Sad fines definitely tilted to the Unhappy side this morning as we lamented the Packer’s loss to Seattle in the season opener and the Brewers 9th loss in a row pushing them further out of first place. However, still time to change both team’s fortunes and hopefully the fines at future meetings will be “Happier.” Highlights of the meeting included:
Good to have Larry D’Attilio visiting the club. Congratulations to Larry and Pam on their 33rd Anniversary and thanks for the celebratory donation.
We inducted 2 new members this morning. Gwen Condon is joining us from the Lake Country Rotary and Bill Severson. Welcome to the Club Gwen and Bill! That brings our total membership to 79 – a new all-time high for ERC
New member Peter Meyer took a few minutes to give his classification talk. Peter is an executive with the Boy Scouts. However his formal education is in music as a former percussionist with the MSO, Peter, with a number of our other musically talented ERC members, could probably form a pretty good Rotary Band!
John Shesta gave us an update on the Rotary Youth Protection policies. John stressed that our work with literacy, student exchange and youth leadership makes it essential that all our members are aware of the procedures to follow to protect both the youth and Rotarians.
Our speakers this morning, Jim and Michele Wallace, told us about their medical mission to Piura, Peru. Jim, a surgeon at Froedtert Hospital led a team this past January, to this remote city, referred to as “The City of Eternal Heat” because of its consistent warm climate. Jim’s team shipped in full operating room and performed nearly 2 dozen hernia operations during their week in Peru. As we have seen from our ERC projects in Guatemala, Ecuador, and Belize, although the medical needs in Latin America are large, our efforts their can offer great benefits.
