The Western Great Lakes District Conference is coming up on May 1-2 in Oshkosh, WI. Organizers of the conference, with strong representation from both District 6220 and District 6270, have put together two fabulous days of programming and entertainment.

Our own Rotarian, Dawn (Heath) Fiedler from the Rotary Club of Elkhorn, will talk about Human Trafficking in our local community, followed by a panel discussion with local law enforcement and other professionals. Join the discussion to find out what you and your Club can do to help support this effort.

Fresh Water Issues is another breakout session. Professor and Dean Val Klump from University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee School of Freshwater Sciences will talk about our very important resource, The Great Lakes, and why is it important we manage our lakes well. Fresh water is one of the Areas of Focus of The Rotary Foundation and the subject of many of our District’s project past and present. Join and learn more about this important subject.

Razia Jan is one of our Keynote speakers. Razia is the founder and president of the Zabuli Education Center and member of Rotary Club of Duxbury, MA, has worked for many years to forge connections between Afghans and Americans. She founded Razia’s Ray of Hope Foundation to empower Afghan girls through education. The organization, begun in 2008, provides exemplary, free education to more than 625 girls in grades K-12 at the Zabuli Education Center in the district of Deh’Subz, Afghanistan. A wonderful example of the powers of one person.
This is just a taste of the many breakouts and keynote speakers you can participate in and listen to during the Convention. For the full program, go to the convention's home page.
In addition to the stimulating speakers, attendees will experience the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) Aviation Museum during the reception and gala dinner on Saturday evening. Informal gatherings throughout the weekend at the Best Western Premier Waterfront Hotel and Conference Center in Oshkosh will round out the fun-filled weekend in Wisconsin’s Event City.
