“Located in the heart of Southeastern Wisconsin, the City of Brookfield is a community of choice for families and businesses and a premier sustainable place to live, work, shop and play.”

Elmbrook Rotarian Steve Ponto, Mayor of the City of Brookfield gave the members an update on developments, projects, and city news at the Sunrise Meeting. In 1990, as a practicing corporate attorney, Steve moved to Brookfield with his family. From 1998-2010 he served as an Alderman and then President of the City Council. In 2010 he became Mayor and has since served three consecutive terms.

What makes the City of Brookfield the great community that it is?
One shining star and a “major asset” for the community, is the outstanding educational system of public and private schools. The recent recognition of Brookfield East Principal Andrew Farley for National Secondary School Principal of the Year and Superintendent Mark Hanson for Wisconsin Superintendent of the year, speaks to the high quality public educational system the district provides Elmbrook families. Asked about this recognition, Principal Farley said, it is “deeply humbling and honoring”. Congratulations Andy and Mark!

Mayor Ponto reviewed several newly completed business development projects within the 66 acres of the old Ruby Farm property now called The Corridor, and other projects across the city including the Conference Center, Lifetime Fitness, Hilton Garden Inn, Landmark Credit Union Headquarters, Hydrite Chemical Co. Headquarters, Fairfield Inn by Marriott, Orthopedic Associates, Holiday Inn Express, and the Ruby Apartments to name a few.

What is the cities vision?

“The strategic vision of the city manifests itself in many ways – taking steps to maintain safe and stable neighborhoods, revitalization of business districts, preservation of environmental corridors, repair of roadways, building of new or improved recreation facilities, or the marketing of the community within and outside the state.” He addressed potential plans for Brookfield Square and the  development of  a state of the art playground at Wirth Park. This park will be disability accessible “so everyone can enjoy it”.

Thank you Mayor Ponto for the update and sharing of the future plans for the City of Brookfield!
