A Huge Success
Early this fall the Elmbrook Rotary Club (ERC) kicked off their annual book drive with the goal of surpassing last year’s gift to Literacy Services of Wisconsin (LSW) of 500 books. As usual, the ERC Rotarian’s exceeded their goal. The books delivered to LSW this last week totaled 1,108.
Each year Rotarians collect new or gently used fiction, non-fiction, biographies, cookbooks, how to books and children’s books which are gifted to LSW. LSW gives books to their students for their reading pleasure and for reading to their children. Books not selected by the students are sold to a secondhand bookstore.
LSW was founded in 1965 and will soon start their 60th. year of providing literacy services to adults. Most of the students receive one on one tutoring from trained volunteers.  LSW provides the following programs: Adult Basic Education, English Language Learners and General Educational Development/High School Equivalency Diploma (GED/HSED) programs. During the last fiscal year LSW served 1,400 students. This past year 241 GED/HSED students earned their High School Certification.

The above picture shows some of this year’s donated books. Right side Rotarians Jan Constable, Mark Thurner, John Allen and LSW’s Aaron Goyette – Associate Director.

Thank you, Jan and fellow Rotarians, for heading up this great project, and our members for their generosity of donating over one thousand books.
