Ciara McHugh continues her Ph.D. program in research at the Senator George J Mitchell Institute for Global Peace, Security, and Justice at The Queen's University of Belfast, Northern Ireland. This is the second year for this Global Grant Scholar, for whom Elmbrook Rotary Club has served as local liaison in RI District 6270.

Through the support of LINCS (Leverhulme Interdisciplinary Network for Cyber Security) and The Rotary Foundation's Global Grant Scholarship, Ciara is exploring how police and communities interact around the world. She is especially interested in looking at tensions between minority groups and police forces, and how we might rethink relationships between the two. When not researching, she is out hiking in the Mournes, sailing in Belfast Harbour, playing her ukelele at the Sunflower, and trying new vegan recipes.

The Queen's University of Belfast recently awarded her with a scholarship that will enable her to do some of her research in North America. This means that we'll see Ciara from time to time during the coming year. In the meantime, do enjoy her blog (https://ciarajmchugh.weebly.com), which details her adventures and progress in her studies.
