Elmbrook Rotary constructed and donated 18 StoryWalk podiums to the City of Brookfield public Library. StoryWalks are an innovative and interactive way for readers of all ages to enjoy a story while being outdoors in nature. The goal of a StoryWalk is to encourage families to get outside and be active while engaging in literacy.
StoryWalks are designed to engage young readers and provide them with an outlet for movement and activity. Pages of a children’s picture book are placed on special stands or podiums; and placed around a park or public gathering area. As you walk and read each page of the story leads to next page.
The Brookfield StoryWalk made its debut at the Brookfield German Holiday Market on December 7, 2024, where they were placed around the Civic Plaza. Following that they were placed around the courtyard of the City of Brookfield Library. Future uses will include new stories placed at different events around the City.
Elmbrook Rotary members Harry Farchmin, Tom Curl, Thomas Steinbach, Kari Richlen, Gary Gilmore, Noaman Sharief and his daughter Zoha Sharief constructed the portable podiums in Tom Curl’s workshop.
