Six Elmbrook Rotarians performed the Summer Adopt-A-Highway Cleanup on August 22. In 2022, The Elmbrook Rotary Club adopted a section of State Highway 59, also known as Greenfield Avenue, in the southwest corner of Brookfield. The Adopt-A-Highway initiative is one of the efforts of the Club’s Community Service avenue of service. We are pleased to have this project and to contribute to the health and aesthetics of our community.
Our commitment to the program includes three cleanup dates per year: late spring, mid-summer, and late fall. We can see that the impact over time is a positive one. With each year and cleanup date, we see slightly less refuse on the roadside. If you are familiar with the “broken windows” theory, the effect may be happening on our stretch of highway, with a cleaner environment affecting the actions of people who may refrain from littering an area that is generally clean.
Thanks to the mid-summer cleanup crew. Pictured at the start of the cleanup are Rotarians Dave Engle, Bill Petterson, Paul Langer, Karl Schulz, Paul Sawicki, and Bill Selzer. For anyone interested in participating in the next cleanup, it will be scheduled for late October.
